Bar Fines and Pattaya Girls

The most enjoyable pastime in Pattaya is crawling the bars in search of Pattaya girls.  It’s pure delight to wander from bar to bar in search of one where you would want to plant yourself for the evening. Usually, you wind up spending the most time in the bar with the most drop-dead-gorgeous girls in Pattaya.

After you’ve spent a while in such a bar and have enjoyed the company of the Pattaya girls who work there, you’ll probably have picked out one that you’d like to get to know better.  You probably have one that you’d like to take back to your room.

Back home, in the West, you’d have to hang out until the girl got off work. Not so in Pattaya.  You can take the girls from Pattaya home as soon as you want, but not without dealing with her boss first.  This is where the bar fine comes into play. You have to pay a fine to the bar owner in order for the bar girl to be excused from working for the rest of the night.

The idea behind the bar fine is that it’s supposed to reimburse the bar owner for the girl’s time that she’s not going to be in the bar selling drinks and entertaining customers. Whatever the origin of the practice, it doesn’t matter. The bottom line is that if you want to take the Pattaya girls out of the bars then you have to pay a “bar fine”.

The bar fine in a typical Pattaya beer bar is 300 baht or so. The go-go bars and coyote bars cost more. The fines for the go-go dancers is anywhere from 500 to 600 baht. If you want to take out one of the show girls or specialty acts, then naturally the bar fine will be even more.

In the beer bars they put the bar fine slip right into the check bin and you pay it when you pay the rest of the tab as you leave.

In a go-go bar they collect the bar fine as soon as you agree to pay it. In a go-go bar you can sit and have drinks with the dancers, but unless you’ve paid the bar fine, the girl has to get up and leave you whenever her shift on the dance floor starts again.

If you’ve paid the bar fine, then she doesn’t have to dance anymore and you can sit together and have some more drinks if you like or you’re free to leave. It’s up to you at that point.

Once you’ve paid the bar fine the girls can change into their street clothes. By the way, they always change into their street clothes before they leave. So, don’t expect them to wear those skimpy costumes back to the hotel.
