Not all of the girls that work in Pattaya are from Thailand. Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Pattaya bar girls who have come down from Vientiane to work in Pattaya. They work at the Dream Beer Bar in the new Simon Complex that’s located on Walking Street.

Peow is 20 years old and came to work in Pattaya around 7 months ago. She doesn’t have a long stay visa for Thailand, but has to make visa runs into Cambodia every 30 days just like a lot of foreign tourists have to do. It’s inconvenient, but it’s necessary if she wants to keep working in Pattaya.

After working for about three months in Pattaya, Peow went back to Vientiane on one of her monthly visa runs and convinced a friend of hers, Bee, to join her in Pattaya. Bee is 24 years old and is glad she made the trip down. She really enjoys her work.

Bee came to Pattaya from Laos a short while ago

Bee and Peow share a room in Pattaya that costs them 2000 baht a month. The two Laotian girls both send money home to their families when they are able.

The girls explained that it’s not as easy to make money as a bar girl as one might imagine. In fact, it’s rather tough. At the Dream Beer Bar where they work they make money from three sources, tips, lady drinks, and going out on short and long time dates with customers.

When Bee receives a tip in the form of cash, the tip is split up among all of the girls who were working at the bar that night. There are currently 30 Pattaya girls that work at Dream Beer Bar, so a cash tip gets spread pretty thin.

Bee told me that a lady drink at the Dream costs the customer 150 baht. When someone buys her as lady drink she receives 30 baht from the sale. That’s not a lot but it helps pay the rent. On a good night the Lao girls might each receive 5 or 6 lady drinks. On a slow night they might not get any.

Bee and Peow enjoy life in Pattaya.

Bee and Peow, as well as every other bar girl in Pattaya, can’t wait for tourist season to get ramped up in full swing so they can start making more money.

The bar fine at the Dream is 300 baht and the girls get to split that with the house. The girls get to keep 100 baht from each bar fine. As with all of the bars in Pattaya, the girls don’t have to go with customers. They are free to do as they please.

The girls are also free to charge customers whatever they want for their entertainment services. They get to keep 100% of that fee. The going rate at the Simon Complex is 1000 baht. Some girls will ask for more and some will take less. I’ve heard of some girls who will go as low as 500 baht for a short time engagement in low season.
