Considering value for money you will not find a better place to dine in Pattaya. We were sleeping on Soi Honey which was just 2 minutes walking from there, so, between 5 of us, we have tried more less everything they offer. The place is open 24 hours so it is a good stop for an early morning snack after a night long bar crawl. There are 20 odd tables but, because of all the people walking and selling different things, we would recommend sitting inside at the back. We were quite surprise that they employ children (I think the youngest was about 10 yo) but, after all, you are in a third world country. They don’t have their own sections so sometimes a few people may approach you to ask for your order. The place is really popular so, at certain times (lunch and dinner), you may have to wait to get a table.

So, getting to the point (just thinking of it makes me hungry), what can you get? The offer is actually quite good:

Good selection of Thai food

1. Burgers and sandwiches of all sorts – 30B to 70B (good as a starter or if you are not very hungry a sandwich + a milk or fruit shake will do the job)

2. Thai, English or American breakfast – 45B to 70B

3. Different salads with meat (sea food) of your choice – 45B to 100B

4. Starters like spring rolls, fried macaroni with meat, fried cashew nuts or meat balls – 40B to 85B

5. Huge selection of Thai and Chinese dishes with either rice or noodles – anything ranging from omelets with meat, fried meat with vegetables, to Tom Yum/Kha soups (popular in Thailand) – 60B to 85B

6. Fried snapper fish with different sauces – 210/250B

7. All the continental ‘favorites’ (after going to Thailand you will probably change some of them!) – things like steaks, pork chops, fish fillets and, of course, mighty fish and chips (you wouldn’t expect that, would you?:)) – 130B to 250B

Check out the ice cream selection at Kiss Food and Drinks

8. Ice creams (that is a real bargain, just look at the picture!) – all the popular flavors + banana split – 25B to 60B

9. Milk and fruit shakes (try watermelon! That is my favourite) – all of them are great – around 45B

10. Other beverages – tea/coffee, fruit juices and sparkling drinks (my Spanish teacher said: ‘if you haven’t been to Spain, you don’t know the taste of orange’! In Thailand, they sell on the streets a freshly squeezed orange juice 20/30B) – 20B to 50B

11. Alcoholic drinks (this is not really a place where you go for a drink and we did not realize it until the last day when taking those pictures) – Campari/Martini/Pernod/Liqueurs (80B), Cocktails and long drinks (Margarita, Manhattan, etc. – 130B), Whisky/Brandy/Vodka/Gin/Rum with a soft drink (80B), Sigha/Heineken/Chang beers (40B to 55B), wine (55/75B)

Now, I want to make a few points here: firstly, getting 49B for a pound (April) makes whatever you eat in there really cheap. At home, you would have to pay a few times more for any of those things. Because of the weather you don’t really feel like you want to eat much, 2-3 meals + some snacks and fruit shakes will do; secondly, Thai food is really delicious!!! Eating in many places we were really surprise that so many English and Americans stick to the same, ‘good shit’ all the time (burgers and fish and chips)! FOR GOD SAKE! If you go to France you will drink wine and eat that stinky cheese (possibly frogs). If you visit Ukraine it will be dumplings and 90%, home brewed vodka! So, when you come to Thailand leave your eating habits at home and try local cuisine. I do agree that SOME of the things you can see being sold from those side stalls (especially in Bangkok!) do not look like they are eatable! But the food you get from a restaurant is made especially for foreigners, so it looks good and tastes great!; finally, Thai food in much more spicy than any other thing we have in Europe (you know what I mean if you have a Mexican friend!) so when you order make sure your girlfriend tells them that you don’t want it spicy (only a little). If she doesn’t, you will probably end up as a dragon shooting flames (Oh yes, I still remember that lovely green curry from our first trip to Bangkok!) all over and one bottle of water may not be enough!!!

If you’re in the mood for a fine steak dinner, Beefeater Steak House & Pub is the place to go in Pattaya. Located on Soi 13, Beefeater cooks up only the finest cuts of beef imported from Australia and New Zealand. The atmosphere is pleasant and the wait staff is friendly and attentive.

I’ve never met the cook, but I can tell you that he will cook your steak to perfection no matter how you order it. Beefeater Steakhouse & Pub offers three sizes of Filet Steak, 200, 300 or 400 gram. They also serve a 250 gram Ribeye steak that is sure to please.

All steaks come with a choice of sauce. You can choose red wine sauce, pepper sauce, BBQ sauce and of course, béarnaise. Meals also include your choice of potato as well. They offer French fried, baked, mashed, or au gratin. If you’re not into potatoes, you can substitute a green salad.

Beefeater Grill Menu

Steak isn’t the only thing on the menu. Chicken or pork dishes are also available. In fact their Pork Fillet Caruso with béarnaise and asparagus is pretty amazing. Besides the traditional cuts of steak they have kabob as well. They always have some specialty preparations on their “Grill Menu”.

Prices aren’t cheap. But when you consider that they import all of the beef, it’s really worth it. The 200 gram fillet will run you 475 baht. The largest 400 fillet is the most expensive thing on the menu at 795 baht. Most of the items on the grill menu are priced between 365 and 475 baht.

The bar is fully stocked and features the most popular imported liquor. They have a nice wine selection as well.

The dress, as with most Pattaya restaurants, is casual. Shorts are Ok, but I’ve never seen anyone in swimsuit and flip-flops.

The last time I was there I ordered the 200 gram fillet cooked medium rare. It came out perfectly cooked and I could practically cut the meat with my fork. Instead of the potatoes, I ordered the green salad and it was tasty as well. I don’t like to get stuffed before a night out on the town, so the small steak was plenty for me.

Give Beefeater Steak House and Pub a try. I recommend it.

Kiss Food and Drink has good food at reasonable prices.

One Pattaya restaurant where you can get good food at reasonable prices is the Kiss Food and Drink restaurant on the corner of Pattaya 2 and Soi 13 on the opposite side of the street from Mike’s Mall. It’s open 24 hours a day and you can get a tasty Thai meal there for under 50 baht.

Besides having good food, this restaurant is a great place to meet Pattaya girls. A lot of the girls stop in for a meal before they head off to work and come in again late at night. When you eat at the Kiss you’re sure to see other “farang” eating there with their Pattaya girls in tow. In fact, the Kiss Food and Drink is a good place to just relax and people watch.

Look for the Kiss Food and Drink sign.

It’s located right in an area that’s packed with beer bars so it’s a good place to make your last stop after a hard night of bar crawling. The Kiss is also a good place to start the day. An interesting pastime is to just watch the constant parade of people passing by on Pattaya 2. The Kiss is an open air restaurant with tables right out on the sidewalk on one side where it connects with a promenade.

There’s a steady stream of clientele that frequent the Kiss and it’s easy to see why. Their prices are the lowest in town. Breakfast is a popular meal at the Kiss. You can get an American breakfast including coffee for 60 baht. The menu is extensive with a number of seafood dishes and soups available, all for around 50 baht. They have a shrimp and rice dish that is delicious priced at only 35 baht.

No matter what time of day or night, Kiss Food and Drink is well worth the stop. The staff is friendly and most of the waiters speak enough English to understand exactly what you want. In spite of the volume and turnover of customers, the service is prompt and courteous. This is a good place for a cheap date with your Pattaya girl.

For a great Pattaya breakfast, look for this sign on Pattaya 2 Road

One Pattaya restaurant that offers good food at a tremendous value is the Happy Buffet at the Apex Hotel. It’s one of those all-you-can-eat buffets. Whether you’re in the mood for Western food, or you’d like to try out some different Thai dishes, the Apex serves up delicious entrées that delight any palette.

The most popular meal at the Happy Buffet is breakfast. For a mere 110 baht you’ll get to graze at the 100-foot-long buffet counter until you’re stuffed. The buffet opens bright and early at 7 a.m. and it usually starts to get crowded between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The buffet closes at 1 p.m. It’s a popular place to bring your long-time date from the night before down for a nice breakfast sendoff.

The buffet comes complete with beverages including coffee, tea, orange and pineapple juice, as well as milk.

Apex Hotel Pattaya

The Happy Buffet offers an entire selection of fruits, salads, and vegetables. There is also a wide choice of pastry and bread.

Your Thai girlfriend will enjoy a choice of at least four Thai dishes, as well as a large cooker of white rice.

The offerings include the standard American breakfast items such as fried and scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, and ham. They also have a chef on hand who prepares made to order omelettes.

This is the entry to the Happy Buffet at the Apex Hotel

The only downside that we could see was the fact that they only had two toasters available in the fresh bread section. Toast is popular with almost all of the foreign patrons and unfortunately there is usually a waiting line for the toasters.

One successful strategy for getting toast is to head straight to the toaster as soon as you arrive at the buffet. Plunk in your bread, and then head on to the rest of the buffet. Just about time your plate is full with other items, your toast will be popping up out of the toaster.

At 110 baht which includes your beverage, the Apex Hotel Happy Buffet is the best deal in town on breakfast.

The Apex Hotel is located on Pattaya 2 between Soi 12 and Soi 13.
